Cuando se trate de pedir y dar información sobre ti mismo, puedes utilizar algunas de las siguientes preguntas y respuestas:

DAR CONSEJOS Y SUGERENCIAS

Cuando se dan consejos y/o sugerencias, se pueden utilizar expresiones como estas:

* I have a (headache / toothache / stomachache).
* You should take some (aspirin / alkaseltzer)
* Why don’t you (go to the doctor, go to the dentist)
* Should / shall i call the doctor / bring a cup of tea?
* Do´t eat junk food / have cold drinks...

COMPARAR MERCANCIAS

Cuando quieras hacer comparaciones, hazlo de la siguiente manera:

* The blue dress is (smaller / prettier / more expensive) than the yellow one.

* We have a (better / worse / less expensive) computer

* These red apples from Chihuahua are (cheaper / more delicious) than those from Washington.

Puedes elaborar otros enunciados semejantes apoyándote en el siguiente cuadro.

EXPRESAR SUGERENCIAS

Para expresar preferencias puedes usar expresiones como:

* I don`t like (this / that) car.
* I prefer the red one. Because is more comfortable
* I like (apples) because are more delicious
* I like (these / those) cameras. They´re better


Cuando se trate de comprar o vender, puedes emplear algunas de las siguientes preguntas y respuestas:


VENDEDOR COMPRADOR
* Can I help you?
* What can I do from you? * Yes, please. * I`m looking for… * I`m just looking. * No, thank you. * I would like a shirt
* What size? * (Small / Medium / Large).
* What color? * (Blue / Yellow / White).

PREGUNTAR Y RESPONDER SOBRE PRECIOS

Las expresiones más usuales para preguntar y responder sobre precios son:

COMPRADOR VENDEDOR
* How much is (this / that / it)?

* How much are (these / those / they)? * It`s $.400 dollars * They`re $ 700 pesos





UNIT 4 : HOUSE AND HOME


4.1.- DESCRIBING ACCOMMODATION

Para medir y dar información acerca del lugar en que se encuentran las cosas, suelen usarse expresiones:

* Where`s the (apple pie / milk)? * It`s (on / in) the (table /shelf / refrigerator)
* Where are the (spoons / knives)? * They are (in / on / Ander) the (drawer / table / cupboard).

* The instant coffee is on the shelf. * There is some sugar in the bowl.

* Is there any butter in the fridge? * Yes, there is some. * No, there isn`t any.
* Are there any forks on the table? * Yes, there are some. * No, there aren`t any.




EXPRESAR NECESIDAD

Para indicar que se necesita algo, utiliza expresiones como éstas:

* I need eggs, milk and flour to make a cake.
* There is some milk in the fridge but there isn`t any flour.
* How much do you need?
* Just two cups.
* How many eggs do you need?
* Only four

Como todas las funciones de esta unidad se refieren a hechos o relatos, para expresarlas se utilizan enunciados en pasado y pasado progresivo. Observa los siguientes cuadros que te pueden servir de guía.

Nota: Observa que algunos verbos forman su pasado agregando ED, mientras que otros lo hacen en forma irregular. Observa también que en oraciones negativas o cuando haces preguntas, el verbo se usa en forma simple.

William Shakespeare

Shakespeare was born in Sranford-Upon-Avon, England in 1564. He was a poet, dramatist and actor. He wrote many plays for the theater: “Hamlet”, “Othello”, “Macbeth”, etc. He also wrote 154 sonnets. Shakespeare died in Sratford-Upon-Avon in 1616.

Alexander Fleming
(Bacteriologist)

Fleming was born in Scotland in 1881. He studied at the University of london. He was interested in infectious disases; in 1928, he discovered a substance that killed bacteria common to many diseases. He called this substance, penicillin.
He received the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1945. He died in london in 1955.
